IAB

The IAB is unique in that it is both a professional body for book-keepers and it is an awarding body recognised and regulated by the relevant government authorities in England (QCA), Wales (ACCAC) and Northern Ireland (CCEA). Most of the IAB qualifications are accredited by these authorities, therefore candidates from these places have that additional assurance of quality that accreditation brings.

IAB LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN COMPUTERISED BOOK- KEEPING


The overall aim of this qualification is to accredit candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles concerned in the use of a computerised accounting system using commercially available software.   The qualification is non-software specific.

AIMS

In summary, the qualification aims to enable candidates to:

  1. Assess their competence and understanding in carrying out a range of basic day-to-day book-keeping routines and activities using a computerised book-keeping system operated with commercially available accounting software. The activities will include entry of business transactions, and routine book-keeping tasks.
  2. To assess their understanding of the importance of maintaining accuracy, security and data integrity in performing any book-keeping tasks using commercial software for a computerised book-keeping system.

IAB LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN COMPUTERISED PAYROLL

The overall aim of the qualification is to accredit candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles relating to the basic calculations and preparation of both weekly and monthly payrolls, using some manual routines for the calculation of Gross Pay. In addition, it accredits some book-keeping skills of candidates in performing the routine tasks of calculating the cost of wages to the employer and other management reports which may be prepared manually.

AIMS

In summary, the qualification aims to enable candidates to:

  1. Develop their understanding of more advanced aspects of day-to-day payroll procedures and how to apply them to a computerised system.
  2. Develop skills in dealing with the NIC for directors and the information required by the commercial software to calculate NIC for a director.
  3. Develop an understanding of the processing of redundancy and further termination payments.
  4. Develop further skills to perform routine and some non-routine payroll tasks.
  5. Understand the importance of accuracy, security and statutory responsibilities in performing any payroll task.
TARGET GROUP


The IAB Level 3 Diploma in Computerised Payroll is specifically designed to appeal to those who are aspiring to become professional payroll administrators.
The Level 3 qualification is primarily designed for the following candidates:

  1. Those who already have some payroll experience and who wish to acquire further skills and knowledge required of payroll administrators.
  2. Those candidates who already hold the IAB Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Payroll and Level 3 Diploma in Payroll.
  3. Those who are already employed in payroll administration or allied roles and who wish to enhance there firm foundation and the knowledge and skills to perform some advanced routine and non-routine tasks using commercially available payroll software.
  4. Those who may wish to continue to a higher level of study in Payroll and related subjects and qualifications.


IAB Level 2 Certificate in Business Enterprise (QCF)


The overall aim of the qualification is to accredit the knowledge and skills of candidates relevant to the fundamentals of business enterprise.
Within the qualification, candidates have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills associated with starting a business and to look at the key aspects which need to be developed for the potential business to be successful.


AIMS

In summary, the qualification aims to enable candidates to:

  • Develop a business idea and create a vision for a business.

  • Understand how to build business relationships and how to sell the chosen product or service.

  • Investigate legal and health and safety requirements and choice of business premises

  • Estimate financial needs for a business and produce a cash flow forecast

  • Prepare and produce a business plan.

STATEMENT OF LEVEL

This qualification has been designed to assess the knowledge and skills relating to Business enterprise at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no formal entry requirements for Level 2 Certificate in Business Enterprise. However it is recommended that prospective candidates will already have basic skills in both numeracy and literacy prior to embarking on a course of study for this qualification.

THE STRUCTURE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The qualification is divided into thirteen units each with identified Learning Topics. To gain the full award, candidates are required to successfully demonstrate their competences in the satisfactory completion of at least ten externally set and internally assessed assignments.

IAB Level 2 Diploma in Personal Finance

The overall aim of the qualification is to accredit the knowledge and skills of candidates relevant to the fundamentals of personal financial management. Within the qualification, candidates have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills associated with the key financial skills and tasks necessary for day to day personal financial management. 

AIMS

In summary, the qualification aims to enable candidates to:

  • Develop an understanding of fundamental, personal financial management activities.

  • Develop the skills to perform some of the routine, personal financial record-keeping tasks.

  • Develop the skills to perform a range of key personal financial management tasks.

  • Understand the importance of accuracy in performing financial record-keeping and management tasks.

  • Upon completion candidates may, if they wish, progress to further develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in the area of accounting, payroll and other financial skills.


TARGET GROUP

The IAB Level 2 Diploma in Personal Finance is specifically designed to appeal to those who are wishing to gain skills and knowledge in various areas of dealing with personal financial matters.

Entry Requirement

As there is no significant overlap between this and other IAB qualifications, there is no restriction, for reason of overlap, on candidates being registered concurrently for other IAB awards (i.e. multiple entry is permitted)

THE STRUCTURE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The qualification is divided into seven units (two are numbered 6A and 6B respectively as they represent a choice), each with identified Learning Topics. To gain the full award, candidates are required to successfully demonstrate their competence in the satisfactory completion of six externally set and internally assessed assignments.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING

All seven units will have an associated practical assignment set externally by the IAB, which will be marked internally by the centre, in accordance with the published IAB guidelines. An independent assessor, who will have been nominated by the centre and approved by the IAB, will mark one of the core module assignments.
